Jacqui’s unique skill set has allowed her to train and educate new artists entering the industry and empower those that have been in it for a while. While she enjoyed the years embracing her hair and learning about ingredients that would nurture her hair, she always missed the aspect of the beauty salon that centered on community. She always imagined a space focused on natural hair that would encourage a similar connection. In 2016, she tested the waters by selling products at various fairs and businesses and then in 2017 she found a space for Puff to run her natural hair and beauty boutique. Again and again, she would have great conversations with customers and quickly people began asking if she “did hair”. Bethany knew what she had to do and after securing a grant, assembling an amazing team, finding the perfect space in the Oregon District, renovating that space…Puff Apothecary is now a natural hair boutique & studio that provides products AND hair styling services for natural hair. As the oldest of five she developed a passion for doing hair when she started helping her mother with her sibling’s hair. Asha found her lane in natural hair after doing the big chop herself. Prior to beginning her apprenticeship she had 4 years of natural hair experience. Kia began her work with natural hair by loc-ing and re-twisting hair and she is excited to expand her natural hair expertise with loc’d and loose hair. Coming from a multi-racial family, not many of her family members had experience with her hair texture. This really sparked her interest in natural hair of all textures.
